Ross Converse                                                                                                                  Converse Engineering

Dear Ross,

This is a long overdue "thank you" note from me to you

My car has only been on the road for about 2 months now (4000 miles or so) but it has already become my favorite.

I have always had a particular fondness for cars.  My first car was a '57 Thunderbird that I still drive.  I traded an old XJ6 Jaguar sedan on a new Saab Turbo in 1984 and drove that until it finally died 3 years.  And in between there was a wonderful mint '63 Eldorado convertible.  But, this car, which was a '91 940se until we added the 5.0 from an 89 Lincoln LSC; this car I like a lot!

As I explained when the first exhaust was being built; I'm over 50 now and so are many of my clients; my mustache is all white; sometimes I wear a tie to work; so I need to be driving something that doesn't scream belated mid-life crisis.  The new Mustang SVT looks and sounds interesting, but not for me.

And of course my Volvo simply says stability, with a solid reputation as safe, reliable, and dependable transportation, but now also add fun and fast!

Now the thank-you; thanks for coming up with this idea in the first place and for sharing the discovery in a way that others could enjoy it.  These days it's rare when the end result comes close to meeting the initial representations and expectations.  I'm real happy with the results.  And thanks for getting back to me those many times when, as no fault of yours, I was at loose ends and in need of solutions.  As you know, this has been quite a journey for me, and you have been the one helpful constant.

And about that journey; 3 years (35 months to be exact) went by from the time I purchased what was a very nice looking car with a cooked engine until the day I took my first drive.  My biggest mistake was believing the local mechanic (who I knew and trusted) when he at first said, "no problem, I can do this", because then when he was over his head, he refused to admit it or ask you or anyone else for help.  It took me about 18 months to get the car back and then many more months to find someone who could, and would, take over the job mid-stream.

All in all, I could have literally saved several thousand dollars if I had the presence of mind to have you assemble my car; and I would have been enjoying this end product experience a whole lot sooner than 3 years later!  My mistake was a big, expensive, time consuming error.  (But I'm not looking back at it.)

Best regards,

Bob Holland

Here are some pictures of the Volvo ('88 740 Turbo) we converted with your kit. I am really happy with this car. Overall the installation was pretty smooth...our biggest hurdles were wiring, getting the shifter right and the front is sagging a little as you can tell from the photo.

I plan to send you several pictures of the motor (the images attached are not the latest). The latest addition is a swivel water inlet part from Jegs that allowed us to route the upper radiator hose under the air conditioner.
